When I say I read this entire book, from beginning to end, in one day, I mean it! I ate grapes, drank coffee, and pretty much locked myself in my room, because I was determined to find out who was lying. Ironically, at the end, finding out who the killer was didn't seem to matter. I found myself more interested in the development of each person involved.
This story has a much deeper meaning and message. "It's always easy to blame others. You can spend your entire life blaming the world, but your success and failures are entirely your own responsibility." (I cannot take credit for this quote, but unfortunately I don't remember who said this…)
From Bronwyn and her "success" as the top student in school, to Addy and her "relationship" with her boyfriend, this story dives into different worlds that were forced together. This story also covers Nate, and his dysfunctional life, and Cooper, who lives a secret double life. These four murder suspects each have a secret they've been hiding, and it is brought to light by the unexpected death of Simon.
And though I could go on for hours about the final reveal, my initial reaction over the reveal was a bit anticlimactic. I found myself invested in the "Bayview Four" and their personal growth, versus solving the mystery. Especially the relationship between Bronwyn and Nate. GURRRLLLLL!! When things began to progress between them, I actually started to freak out! My roommates thought I was a freak, because all they heard was me screaming like a fangirl seconds before they met their favorite voice actor or anime creator. I also may have threatened to throw the book at them after I read it...because I NEED them to read it…
The book is a definite read, and despite my small personal opinion, I'd recommend it for anyone to read it. It's a good read, with a strong message that applies to everyone.
