The Lord of the Flies, Written By: William Golding

I am so sorry Ms. Adams, but this review is going to be short, sweet, and simple. For those who are considering what to read, or have picked this book up without prior knowledge of its contents, I’d like to give you fair warning. Young kids are savagely evil, no adults present does not mean fun time for kids, and pigs are both scary and delicious.

It would have never crossed my mind to think that kids would have the mental capacity to kill, and be overly desensitized to blood. Prior to landing on the island, these kids had never wounded, hunted, killed, or tortured another living soul. Even Jack, the tyrant leader of THE CHOIR BOYS, had become a complete monster in such a short time frame. There is a huge, thick line between the actions expected of an adult living out in the wild, and a 12 year-old boy. Not only did these kids dance across it, they destroyed any chance of a normal childhood after being rescued.

I was not the only one who read this book. My best friends, Jen, Aleshia, and I got “elevated” while discussing several points from the book. First point, made by jen, was that the conch represented the “female vagina”. And it had us thinking about how quick these boys were in responding to the conch noise. Even the little kids knew exactly what was going on. As the conch represented leadership and authority, it is also a reminder that females rile the world. STRAIGHT MATHEMATICS!

Aleshia explained how the entire island seemed like a fantasy. It gave a “Shutter Island” feel to her, especially with the detailed description of the colorful island in the daytime, versus the scary, dark hell at night.

If you read this to the end, I would definitely recommend this book. Just be mindful this book will get you fucked up.
